On a warm sunny day like today, I was wandering around school at lunch looking for something to do. Out of the corner of my eye I see a poster for Polynesian club. With its colors standing out of electric blue, neon green, and campfire orange, It seemed out of place on the old High School walls. The poster read "Come to Poly Club every Friday to learn about Polynesian culture, and free ukulele lessons. This was a very intriguing information poster, with a simple picture of two green frond palm trees, and a white sanded beach, with two reclining chairs viewing the multiple colored sunset. Not knowing what a Polynesian club i was naturally the cat full of curiosity.Wandering the halls of the school, passing the rooms and doors I searched for the Poly club.
Eureka I found it. I walked in and had a seat at one of the desks and waited. They did announcements, and after visitors were asked to stand and introduce themselves. I introduced myself. A long line of people were called out for roll and the meeting commenced. People started eating lunch and I went over to the group of guys with the Ukulele's. They were playing songs from Drop Baby Drop to Over the Rainbow, and even Jammin' by Bob Marley. The notes that were being made by the small instrument made me realize if he can do it than I can too. I asked to see the Ukulele and one of the guys there let me see his. I attempted to strum the strings but had my fingers get stuck in between them making them "twing". I gave it back to him and watched him move his hand so fast that it was a blur. This was one of the first things in my life that I though would be impossible to achieve but I did not give up.
After going to a couple meetings one of my classmates from history came in with his Ukulele and set it in my hands and said, " you will learn how." That simple statement showed me that I can do anything only if I put my mind heart and soul into it. I continued going to the meetings to learn the battle cries and dances of the Hakka, and learning the proper way to play the Ukulele.
Over and over again I practiced until one day I was able to borrow a Ukulele from the guy from my history class. Not only did I practice it on Friday's, but every other day of the week. Now that I can strum and play songs, I am able to impress people with my skills, such as computer hacking skills, nun chuck skills, and Ukulele skills. One day (if I am lucky enough to do so) I will be in the talent show playing the Ukulele and singing a song in front of the school. Now all that I have left to do for my training is practice, practice, practice.
