When you live in an overpopulated area such as the San Francisco Bay area, it is hard to get a job. The competition of job hunting i9s not an easy one while you live here, but you have to get one to survive. From morning to night, you have to search Craigslist.com, and Monster.com, and Ladders.com for all of the job opportunities around. But for a simple job, the best way to get one is to stroll the businesses in your community. My sister did this for weeks until she landed one.
She started at Papa Murphy's, then to subway, then to the sandwich shop next to Dan's Produce, but ending back up at Papa Murphy's. That is what she did, but what I do is different. I go to all of the baseball tryouts, and the umpire training sessions to help myself get recognized in the community. Slowly moving up the ladder from Farm League, to single A, to now at Double A. My rates go up every year to help make money at a decent price for umpiring. On my more adventurous side I also do babysitting for a couple people at my church , and somehow I have fun.
You might be wondering "what do you do with all that money?" That is a good simple question that I can answer. Last year I made a deal with my mom, that any money that I make goes to my bank account for my mission. A mission is something like a duty to god, a job where you go to a place on earth and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. In my religion, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Men go on one of the missions for two years after the age of nineteen, and Women go for a year and a half after the age of twenty-one.
The cash money is split into three pieces, ten percent for tithing, then forty-five percent to my bank and the remaining forty-five percent goes into my pocket to spend. Other item of money like checks, and coins go strait to the bank, and I give ten percent for tithing. The money that I keep I can spend on whatever I want. my parents have taught me enough, that I do not spend my money on random pieces of junk. About a quarter of whatever I keep goes towards lunching with friends (mostly girls), and the remaining goes to fun activities.
Now that the school year is almost over, many people will be looking for jobs. Now is the time to go job hunting for a summer job, and if you are lucky you will get one. All that you need to know about getting a job can and should be in your eighth grade portfolio. If you do not have the credentials for a job, you should at least try for the job just to gain experience. Remember that to gain money you must gain experience, so go get a job!
