The Amityville Horror is a novel written by Jay Anson, that pertains to paranormal activity at a certain home in Amityville. At 112 Ocean Avenue, the land there is haunted by evil spirits, with a history of scaring people away. A man by the name of Ronald DeFeo had taken a high caliber rifle and murdered his two brother, his two sisters, and his two parents, and was given a life sentence in prison. It only took the house four months to scare away a new family away from living in it. there was reports of " ...strange voices coming from deep within themselves, of a power which actually lifted Mrs.Lutz off her feet toward a closet behind which was a room not noted on any blueprints"(pg.2). A secret room in a house sounds kinda suspicious, but to them it was just an extra.
The book continues to go on talking about how a priest goes into the house to bless it and get rid of demons. "As Father Mancuso rode towards his mother's, he tried to rationalize what had happened to him in the Lutzes' house. Who or what would say such a thing to him? After all his experiences in counselling, now and again in his sessions he encountered clients who reported voices-a symptom of psychosis. But Father Mancuso was convinced of his own stability." (pg25) something changed his mind about his job, and if he is going crazy, or if he actually has to do something about the voices he even hears. The rumors that go around about the house seem to be confirmed when the priest hears these voices. What is it that creates the reaction to the paranormal? I don't know but I want to. Some of the reasons we chose this book is because of the action and of the murder that occurs.
In part two they realize that the extra room was painted all red, so they called it "The Red Room" and it caused the dog to cower every time it would be near it as if a negative force was hurting it. Many different phenomena happened inside the house. The youngest daughter Missy, developed an imaginary friend relating to a giant pig demonic with glowing Red eyes. While checking the boathouse one night, George saw a pair of red eyes looking at him from Missy's bedroom window. When he went upstairs to her room, there was nothing to be found. Later it was suggested that it could have been "Jodie".
The most disgusting phenomena was when Green slime oozed from walls in the hall, and also from the keyhole of the playroom door in the attic. The slime phenomena followed them to Kelly's parents house an chased them up the stairs. The family was scared to death when they realized all of the things that were happening were because of "The Red Room" which was built upon a Schinnecock Indian site where they would abandon the mentally ill and the dying rejected by the Native American leaders.
One of the most horrifying occurrences that happened at night while in bed, Kathy received red welts on her chest caused by an unseen force and was levitated two feet off the bed. If I was levitated off my bed two feet in the air, I would be utterly amazed and then freaked out. Also if I woke up with welts on my chest, I would think I'm a survivor of a natural disaster, or I would think that someone was beating me in my sleep not a paranormal factor in my life.
